Issue/Introduction

Before decommissioning vCloud Usage Meter, a few steps need to be made to successfully remove your old appliance and transition to a later version. This KB article describes the required steps to decommission vCloud Usage Meter 4.x.

How to decommission vCloud Usage Meter 4.x

The following steps describe how to decommission vCloud Usage Meter 4.x.

Procedure

Note: If you are running a Usage Meter 4.x appliance in offline mode, ensure that you have uploaded all collected usage data to vCloud Usage Insight.
  1. Delete the Usage Meter 4.x registration from VMware Commerce Portal.
  2. Power off vCloud Usage Meter 4.x.
Note: Usage data is stored for 36 months on vCloud Usage Insight, and after that, it is automatically deleted. Thus, there is no need to back it up before deleting Usage Meter 4.x.
  1. Check if Usage Meter 4.x reporting is correct in vCloud Usage Insight.
Note: The collected usage data appears within 24 hours in vCloud Usage Insight.
  1. Delete vCloud Usage Meter 4.x in vSphere.
