End of Availability of VMware Integrated OpenStack Data Center Edition

Issue/Introduction

With the General Availability of VMware Integrated OpenStack (VIO) 7.0, VMware has decided to merge the Data Center Edition with Carrier Edition, and stop selling the Data Center Edition of this offering.

The Carrier Edition is available for customer to purchase, it includes all features in the Data Center Edition, as well as advanced features. 

The Data Center Edition is no longer available for purchase.

Resolution

With VIO7.0 GA, the Data Center Edition of VIO is no longer available for purchase. There is only one VIO edition for customers to purchase, the Carrier Edition.

VIO as a VMware product, was born with seamless integration with VMware SDDC stack, including vSphere, vSAN and NSX-T.  Since VIO 4.0 release, the two editions were introduced:  Data Center Edition and Carrier Edition, allowing users to select the edition that matches their scenarios.  As the VMware SDDC has evolved, more and more new features have been integrated with VIO and exposed to users via OpenStack interfaces.  To simplify the product licensing model, and provide the maximum product value to our customers, VMware has decided to EOA the Data Center Edition with the VIO7.0 release.

Impact:

There is no immediate impact to existing customers with Active SnS:

• All existing installations will continue to be supported until their End of General Support.
• The Data Center Edition customers will be entitled to VIO 7.0 Data Center Edition with access to additional product features.
• The Carrier Edition customers will be entitled to VIO 7.0 Carrier Edition.

Impact after VIO 6.x End of General Support (the date could be found at lifecycle product matrix):

• After VIO 6.x EOGS, all active Data Center Edition customers will be moved to Carrier Edition and SnS renewal will be at the Carrier Edition SnS price.
