HCX - Bulk migration failure due to "InstantiateVmjob" error

Issue/Introduction

This resource is to inform about HCX vSR Bulk migration failure and how to recover that.

HCX vSR Bulk migration may fail during switchover stage with error "InstantiateVmjob failed".


Below Logs can be seen in HCX Cloud Manager logs:

Location of App Engine log:

• HCX Manager: /common/log/admin/app.log

Resolution

This issue is fixed in HCX 4.6.0 release.

Workaround:
As a potential workaround, below steps can be followed to unblock VM instantiation workflow during migration switchover stage.

• The extended options "Upgrade VMware Tools" must be unchecked (DO NOT tick Apply Option) from migration wizard while configuring BULK migration.

• Upgrade "VMware tool" can be performed manually post completion of the migration at target side.

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:

• This only impacts HCX vSR Bulk Migration.
• There is no impact to RAV, vMotion and COLD migration.
• Network Extension services remain operational.
