Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
When detaching a virtual server from the Load Balancer and there are active connections, you see these symptoms:
  • Interruption in the active traffic through the virtual server.
  • Downloading files fail.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5

Cause

This issue occurs when a virtual server is detached from the Load Balancer, the active connections through this virtual server may be disconnected.

Note: The connection might continue in some cases. However, this might not be reliable.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, VMware recommends that before detaching the virtual server from the Load Balancer:
  1. Plan a maintenance window.
  2. Wait until all the connections through the virtual server are complete. Proceeding without waiting may result in connection failure.
  3. Detach the virtual server from the Load Balancer.
