VMware NSX for vSphere

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
Network share exclusions may not work as expected from some third party agentless anti malware scanning policies.

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure the correct path is specified in the exclusion list.
  • If you are using FQDN to access a file on a network share, then exclusion list should include the same.

    For example:

    \\serverpath.domain.local\share$\ABC

  • Exclusion rules are case sensitive and should match exactly with the network share path.
Note: If the issue persists after applying the exclusion list from the third party anti malware vendor, Trend Micro released a patch that may resolve this issue. For more information, see the Readme for Trend Micro (TM) Deep Security Agent 9.6 Service Pack 1 Patch 1 Update 17 for Linux.

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
Failure to exclude network shares may result in the same file getting scanned multiple times (locally on the server where file is located and through network clients). This results in unnecessary overhead.
