Unable To Reset "root" Password For NSX Application Platform Automation Appliance After "root" Password Expired

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Can't SSH into NSX Application Platform Automation Appliance since "root" user password has expired.
• Unable to reset "root" user password since reset password option is not shown during SSH login.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.1.1

Cause

NSX Application Platform Automation Appliance uses pam_cracklib.so library for enforcing password quality checks. This library is deprecated in Photon OS 4.0 and some earlier versions. Due to this, reset password option is not getting displayed during SSH login after password expires.
