Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

On rare occasions, an Edge in the 5x0 model line (510, 520, 520v, 540) may power off with no noticeable trigger.

This is most often observed when the Edge is connected to a power source that experiences certain power fluctuation. In other words, the issue is directly related to the power environment to which the Edge is connected.

A power cycle (unplugging and then plugging the power on the 5x0 Edge) is required to bring the device back to a working state.

Environment

VMware SD-WAN

Cause

This is an expected behavior when there are power fluctuations on the power source.

Resolution

This is an expected behavior, it is a result of a very short duration power glitch.
Ensure the power to the Edge is consistent and does not flap rapidly or consistently. A good example is an inline UPS to ensure a reliable power source.

Workaround:

To recover the Edge from the problem state:

  1. Disconnect the Edge from the power source.
  2. Wait 20 seconds
  3. Reconnect the Edge

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
Applying the workaround will bring the edge completely down for a brief time period.
