"Certificate validation failed during Stage 2 pre-upgrade check error while upgrading from vCenter Server 7.0.3 to 8.0.1"

Issue/Introduction

During Stage 2, upgrade fails with the following error, "Certificate validation failed during pre-upgrade. Use a dns name that matches the certificate name or regenerate ssl certificates for sso before continuing."

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

Cause

"If the vCenter was upgraded from 5.5 or 6.0, it retains lookup service certificate in STS_INTERNAL_SSL_CERT store which will be used by this url "https://fqdn:7444/lookupservice/sdk"

Resolution

To resolve the issue replace the certificate for STS_INTERNAL_SSL_CERT store.

 to replace the Certificate for STS_INTERNAL_SSL_CERT store.
