Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • New virtual machine (VM) deployments fail with the following error message:
Error: Unauthorized (com.vmware.vapi.std.errors.unauthorized) => { messages = [], data = struct => {error_message=The credentials were incorrect or the account specified has been locked., error_code=403, module_name=common-services}, errorType = UNAUTHORIZED }
  • When attempting to data collect against the Cloud Account the following error is seen:

Environment

VMware Aria Automation 8.x
NSX 4.x
vIDM 3.3.7

Cause

  • This occurs when the NSX endpoint configured in Aria Automation has a invalid or outdated authentication credentials.
  • This occurs when the NSX authentication provider is set to the vIDM server, and the vIDM services experience issues.

Resolution

  1. Identify the Root Cause:
    • Verify that the NSX-T endpoint configuration within vCenter uses the correct credentials.
    • Verify validation for the NSX-T Endpoint in Cloud Accounts.
  2. Update Credentials: Replace the invalid credentials with valid administrative credentials for the NSX-T endpoint.
  3. Check vIDM for issues: Troubleshooting VMware Identity Manager postgres cluster deployed through vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager, REST API to VMware NSX Manager fails while using it with vIDM authentication, and REST API calls using a vIDM user fail in NSX-T.
