Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • the vIDM (VMware Identity Manager) node is constantly rebooting
  • for a short period of time the blue DCUI interface can be seen however
    • it shows a red banner is displayed stating: "NO NETWORKING DETECTED. PLEASE LOGIN AND RUN THE COMMAND..."
    • the web links shows contain the correct FQDN
    • further a lot of messages can be seen stating: "WARNING: Invalid org name contained in hostname :"

Environment

VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7

Cause

The root partition file system is full and therefor the OVF properties are not saved (/opt/vmware/etc/vami/ovfEnv.xml)

Resolution

  1. Power off the impacted vIDM node
  2. Create a Backup/Snapshot
  3. Boot the affected vIDM node into single user mode, refer KB 375672 to enter single User Mode.
    • This can be impacting multiple servers if this is a vIDM cluster.  You may need to clean up the space on each server individually.
  4. Browse through /var/log directory you can find enormous "messages" files.
  5. Deleting the file it will give you an error "This is in Read Only Mode" as the partition is mounted as "Read-Only" Mode
  6. Run below command to mount with Read, Write Mode.

    mount -o remount,rw /

  7. Now you should be able to delete the messages file
  8. Reboot the appliance
