Unable to select a Placement Policy or a Sizing Policy for a Virtual Machine

Issue/Introduction

• When trying to select a Placement Policy or a Sizing Policy for a Virtual Machine in the VMware Cloud Director (VCD) Tenant Portal the option or drop down menu is greyed out.
• Unable to select a Placement Policy or a Sizing Policy for a Virtual Machine.
• Virtual Machines deployed from a vApp Template cannot have a Placement Policy or a Sizing Policy assigned.
• Other Virtual Machines in the same Organization VDC can have their Placement Policy or Sizing Policy changed.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

This issue occurs when a vApp Template is captured to a Catalog and has not had the TAG WITH COMPUTE POLICIES > Modifiable option selected.
When vApps are deployed from a vApp Template where the modifiable option is not set they receive a setting to mark the Placement or Sizing Policy to not be modifiable.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, you will have to change the modifiable option on the captured vApp Template.

For example:

1. Select Content Hub within the Cloud Director Tenant Portal.
2. Select Content > vApp Templates.
3. Click the radio button to the left of the desired vApp Template.
4. Select TAG WITH COMPUTE POLICIES.
5. Enable the Modifiable option for the VM Placement / vGPU Policy and/or VM Sizing Policy section.
