Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • In a Multisite environment, adding an External Network will only display Distributed Portgroups for the local site in Cloud Director 10.2.2 and 10.3 versions.
  • Logged onto site A in the Provider Portal > Under the Resources tab > Cloud Resources  > External Networks New  > Choose site B > Next > Choose vSphere Resources and Distributed Port Groups > Next > Enter details in General > In the Distributed Port Groups only the option of the port groups are showing from site A instead of site B (chosen site).

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the initial query used to load the portgroups only does so for the local site.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Cloud Director 10.2.2 and 10.3 versions.
The issue is resolved in VMware Cloud Director 10.3.1, available at Broadcom Downloads.

If you cannot upgrade to Cloud Director 10.3.1 or above, please use the workaround specified in the Workaround section.

Workaround:

  1. When Logged into site A.
  2. On the Provider portal, navigate to Resources Tab > Cloud Resources > Click External Networks.
  3. Click New.
  4. Choose Site B.
  5. On the Backing Type tab choose the radio buttons for vSphere Resources and Distributed Port Groups and click Next.
  6. On the General tab enter Name for the external network and click Next.
  7. The Distributed Port Groups tab is only showing Distributed Port Groups of site A. You should be viewing the port groups of site B as you choose site B on step 4.
  8. Click Previous.
  9. Click Previous again.
  10. On the Backing Type tab click the Standard Port Groups radio button. The vSphere Resources radio button should already be clicked.
  11. Now click back to the radio button for Distributed Port Groups.
  12. Click Next.
  13. Click Next.
  14. The Distributed Port Groups tab is now showing Distributed Port Groups for site B.
