Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Cannot update the NIC settings of a Standalone Virtual Machine in Cloud Director 10.2
  • Clicking the Edit option to modify the NICs of a Standalone Virtual Machine opens the page but it fails to load and becomes unresponsive

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

This is a known issue affecting Cloud Director 10.2, for more details see the Known Issues section of the VMware Cloud Director 10.2 Release Notes.

Resolution

Workaround:

To workaround the issue the Standalone Virtual Machine can be converted to a vApp to edit the NIC:

  1. Use the Convert to vApp option from the VM's Actions menu to change from a Standalone Virtual Machine to a vApp Virtual Machine.
  2. With the VM now in a vApp the NIC can now be edited without issue.
NOTE: Adding multiple additional VMs or vApp Networks to the newly created vApp will result in the inability for the vApp to be converted back to a Standalone Virtual Machine.
  1. After the NIC edit is complete convert the vApp VM back to a Standalone Virtual Machine if desired using the Convert to VM option from the vApp's All Actions menu.
Alternatively use the Cloud Director API to edit the Standalone Virtual Machine's NIC. See Update the NetworkConnectionSection of a Virtual Machine in the VMware Cloud Director API Programming Guide for details.
