Issue/Introduction

Error seen for High-Frequency Snapshot Protection for a given virtual machine:

Failed to backup VM 'vm-a' (/vm-a/vm-a.vmx) during stage: performing backup, for task: drc-cd251300-9b06-11ee-8af2-0a8cb3cffd85. High-frequency snapshot failed. Internal error: DPS no-op sync in VADP-LWD conversion failed (NotFound)

Backups will fail if the correct storage source is not expected within vSphere stack.

Environment

VMware Live Cyber Recovery 7.24.x and above

Cause

VMDKs of the VMs are showing up as VMFS or 'vsansparse' backed files(-flat.vmdk). VMDKs are to be created on the VSAN object in order to flag correctly and be backed up by VMware Live Cyber Recovery. Refer KB315551

This is mostly seen if the Virtual machine is deployed through Citrix Solution.

Resolution

This is fixed in vSphere ESXi 8.0.1 release or later. Refer KB318223

Workaround:

1) Clone the affected Virtual Machine and leverage the new cloned Virtual Machine to be part of the same Protection group.

OR

2) Perform a Storage vMotion of the affected Virtual Machine to a different datastore and migrate it back.
