The power consumption Unit of VM exceeds the power consumption of the ESXi host.

Issue/Introduction

• The Power Consumption of the virtual machine greatly exceeds that of the ESXi host in the Advanced Performance Charts. 
  
  
• ESXi host power consumption: (~120w)
  
  
• VM power consumption (~1kw):

 

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x

Cause

This is a known issue. The vCenter UI shows VM power in W, but the data is actually in mW. 

Resolution

• The issue is fixed in 8.0 and later

  No functional impact. The display on the vCenter UI appears to be unreasonable.
