This article lists the recommended practices to perform SRM/VR upgrades on VMC and on-prem.
Resolution
The VMware DRaaS engineering team upgrades the SRM/VR components on the customer's VMC SDDC. This doesn't need a separate request from the customer. The DraaS team does it on in a staggered fashion across the install base.
The upgrade of the SDDC components external to DRaaS is done separately by VMware as part of the release schedule of the SDDC M-versions. That is a completely independent process and from the customer's perspective, there is nothing particularly different in how this is done for DR SDDCs vs. non-DR SDDCs.
The upgrade of the SRM/VR components in the customer's on-prem environment that is paired to VMC is the customer's responsibility to manage.
The on-prem SRM/VR upgrade will be needed occasionally since there is version flexibility between different versions of SRM/VR across the paired sites. One such occasion is when the Draas team upgrades the VMC/cloud side to SRM/VR 8.3, customers who still have SRM/VR 8.1.x deployed on-prem will have to upgrade to at least 8.2, preferably 8.3.
