Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
The selection to enable secure boot in the H5 client is not available in VM's
"Edit Settings -> VM Options -> Boot Options" when Guest Operating System is set to Debian 10.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue:
  1. Create a new VM with hardware version 13 or higher.
  2. Set the guest OS family as “Linux” and guest OS Version is "Other 4.x or later Linux (32 bit)” for “Debian GNU/Linux10 (32 bit)”, or "Other 4.x or later Linux" for “Debian GNU/Linux10 (64 bit)”.
  3. Enable secure boot by “Customize hardware->VM Options->Boot Options->Firmware->EFI->Enable Secure Boot”.
  4. Boot a Debian 10 installer CD and finish the installation.
  5. Reboot and In the shell, run the command to verify secure boot is enabled:
dmesg | grep secure
