Issue/Introduction

  • Host connected USB device of a virtual machine shows "Device not found" after upgrading to ESXi 6.7 with vmkusb enabled.
  • Connect a USB device from an ESXi host to a virtual machine.
  • Upgrade the ESXi version to 6.7. The output of "vmkload_mod -l | grep usb" in the ESXi host will contain the word vmkusb if vmkusb is enabled.
  • The USB device name may show "Device not found" in UI page "Edit settings" for the virtual machine after the upgrade.

VMware vSphere 6.7.x

Cause

The USB device physical path changes after upgrading to 6.7, and the virtual machine fails to find the device.

Resolution

This is a known issue with ESXi 6.7.

Currently, there is no solution.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue, disconnect and reconnect the USB device to the virtual machine.
