Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Edit settings pane for the virtual machine is not accessible
• Cannot vMotion the affected virtual machine
• Backup software cannot backup the affected virtual machine
• Hardware version and VMware tools version are compatible with ESXi host.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7
VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5

Cause

There is an ESXi host synchronization issue with the vCenter and does not allow us to perform actions on the affected vm.

Resolution

•  Disconnect and reconnect all ESXi hosts hosting the affected VMs from the vCenter
• Refresh the vCenter web client
• This shall synchronize the ESXi hosts with the vCenter server.

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
The ESXi host would be disconnected from the vCenter for a few moments.
