Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

After upgrading ESXi Host specifically to 7.0U2, Default Gateway details under IPv6 goes missing.



Cause

  • In previous versions, prior to ESXi 7.0U2 all the configurations were residing under esx.conf file.
  • In ESXi 7.0U2, all the configurations reside in ConfigStore Database.
  • After upgrading to ESXi 7.0U2, IPv6 Default Gateway entry in esx.conf file will be deleted. Where the IPv6 Default Gateway entry doesn't migrate to ConfigStore Database automatically.

Resolution

This issue has been fixed in VMware ESXi 7.0 Update 3c or later.

Workaround:
Follow Set Up IPv6 on an ESXi Host to add IPv6 Gateway manually.
