Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • You see that the NTP health for Log Insight is RED when running /opt/vmware/sddc-support/sos --ntp-health.
  • The time on the Log Insight nodes is in sync with other VMware Cloud Foundation systems and the configured ntp server(s).
  • When you run ntpq -pn on the Log Insight primary node, you see output similar to the following indicating that ntp is working as expected:
     remote           refid      st t when poll reach   delay   offset  jitter
==============================================================================
*10.113.60.176   10.188.9.1       2 u  439 1024  377   34.263  -11.340   7.556

Note:
 If the reach value is 0, this indicates a problem communicating with the configured NTP server and warrants further investigation.
Note: The preceding excerpts are only examples. Date, time, and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 3.0.x

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Cloud Foundation 3.0.x. This issue is fixed in VMware Cloud Foundation 3.5.

Workaround:
The NTP health status of YELLOW can be ignored as long as the results of running ntpq -pn on the Log Insight primary node returns results similar to those noted in the Symptoms section.
