Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • You are performing any of the following actions
    • You try to install ESXi 7.0 Update 3c
    • You have installed ESXi and want to update to ESXi 7.0 Update 3c
  • You're doing this in a HPE server (this issue was seen at least with ProLiant DL580 Gen10 and HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10plus)

While doing the installation/update, during the loading phase you see something similar as

TPM log extend failed for ID 2: Volume full

Failed to measure 'ssacli.v00' into TPM: Volume full

Fatal error: 12 (Volume full)

 

Note, that it could also happen with other components, eg:

Failed to measure 'imgdb.tgz' into TPM : volume full

 

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.3

Cause

TCG event log space fill up. Usually there's 64K of space

Resolution

VMware is aware of this issue and is currently investigating it


Workaround:
The current workaround is to leave TPM enabled, and disable TPM UEFI Option ROM Measurement in the Advanced Trust Platform Module Options in the BIOS settings

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
The host will not boot in this state
