Issue/Introduction

  • A capacity alarm with event type Minimum Capacity Threshold is reported in the NSX UI.
  • Error descriptions:
    • The number of objects defined in the system for Compute Managers has reached 2 which is above the minimum capacity threshold of 70.0%
    • The number of objects defined in the system for Compute Managers has reached 3 which is above the maximum supported count of 2.

Environment

VMware NSX-T 3.2

Cause

In NSX-T 3.2 and later releases, the Manager form factor determines how many Compute Managers are supported:
  • Medium NSX-T Managers support up to 2 Compute Managers
  • Large NSX-T Managers support up to 16 Compute Managers

Resolution

Resize NSX-T Manager 3.x/Resize NSX Manager 4.x nodes to support the amount of Compute Managers configured or remove Compute Managers.

Note: There is a known issue in NSX-T Manager version 3.2.x (prior to 3.2.3) when using the Medium form-factor (6 vCPU, 24 GB RAM). While this configuration is designed to support up to two Compute Managers as per Configmax guidelines, the capacity dashboard incorrectly displays the count as one. This is a false positive within the dashboard's framework. Refer KB: False positive 'Compute Manager Minimum Capacity Threshold' Alarm for 'Medium' form-factor NSX-T Managers

Note: Starting with NSX 4.2, this alarm is expected and is not considered a false positive. For more information, please access: "The number of objects defined in the system for Compute Managers has reached # which is above the minimum capacity threshold of 70.0%. Maximum number of Compute Managers supported is #." on NSX 4.2.0 and later versions.
