Edge is showing status “unable to resolve” under the ‘Sources’ tab in VCO

Issue/Introduction

Understand the DNS resolving mechanism of Velocloud Edges to show it in the sources tab

Symptoms:
A Velocloud Edge has the capacity to resolve IP addresses to domain names via DHCP options.
Edges perform this by snooping DHCP packets as opposed to doing a reverse DNS query.
The ‘Sources’ tab will show an output similar to this:

Cause

Before we troubleshoot why the host names don't resolve we need to check if those hosts use the edge as their DHCP server.

Resolution

As described, any networks for which the Edge is not serving as DHCP server, will not be inspected and thus not resolved.



Workaround:
You can manually add the hostname using "edit" option on VCO and this will be stored in the VCO and these would not timeout.
