Issue/Introduction

Install VMware Tools 10.0.8 to resolve the issue of memory leak in ESXi with VMware Tools versions 9.4.5, 9.4.0, and 9.0.5.

Symptoms:
A virtual machine in ESXi becomes unresponsive or experiences a blue diagnostic screen.

Note: For additional symptoms, see the Additional Information section.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.1
VMware vShield Endpoint 5.5.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5
VMware vShield Endpoint 5.1.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0

Cause

This issue occurs because vShield Endpoint Thin Agent driver (vsepflt.sys) and the vShield Endpoint TDI Manager driver (vnetflt.sys) cause a non-paged pool memory leak on the Microsoft guest operating system where the endpoint module is installed.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware Tools 10.0.8, available at VMware Downloads.

If the issue persists:

Additional Information

You experience these additional symptoms:
  • This issue occurs after you upgrade to ESXi 5.5 GA, ESXi 5.5 Update 1, or ESXi 5.1 Patch 03 with VMware Tools versions 9.4.5, 9.4.0, 9.0.5, including the VMCI vShield driver.
  • The C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump\ memory.dmp file on the affected virtual machine guest operating system indicates that the VFIL or VNET tags are consuming a large amount of non-paged pool memory.
  • If you track the usage of the non-paged pools with PoolMon, you see either the VFIL or VNET tag growing without occurrence of de-allocation.
