Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
Adding a vmdk to a virtual machine in a datastore cluster automatically creates a VM override rule which disallows SDRS from taking action on the VM.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x
VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x

Cause

This is caused by a defect in the logic between SDRS and the virtual machine configuration settings

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware vCenter Server 7.0 Update 1 and vCenter Server 6.7 U3j which can be found at the Broadcom Support Portal

Workaround:
To workaround this problem, remove the automatically generated VM override rules after adding new vmdks to a SDRS-enabled virtual machine.

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
SDRS will no longer take action on virtual machines affected by this issue.
