Issue/Introduction

The Witness host fault domain misconfigured check in the vSAN Health Service verifies that the witness host resides in its own fault domain, and not in the same fault domain as data site hosts. If this health check is not green (OK), the vSAN stretched cluster has configuration errors that affect its operation.

Environment

VMware vSAN 6.1.x
VMware vSAN 6.0.x
VMware vSAN 6.2.x

Resolution

To prevent or resolve the error state, place the witness host inside its own fault domain. If the witness host is in the same fault domain as the data site hosts, move the witness host into a different fault domain.

Use the vSphere Web Client to configure fault domains.
  1. In the Host and Clusters view, select the vSAN cluster.
  2. Click Manage > Settings.
  3. Under vSAN, click Fault Domains.

If necessary, create a new fault domain for the witness host, then move the witness host into it.
