Edge deployment or migration to EVC-enabled host cluster fails with configuration error

Issue/Introduction

After deploying a new NSX Edge or migrating an NSX edge node to a cluster that has EVC enabled, you may encounter the following symptoms:

  • Status displays a configuration error.
  • The NSX Manager logs displays entries similar to:
    nsx-manager NSX - FABRIC [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-manager" errorCode="MP16027" subcomp="manager"] Edge 758ad396-0754-11e8-877e-005056abf715 is not ready for configuration error occurred, error detail is NSX Edge configuration has failed. The host does not support required cpu features: ['aes'].

Cause

The error occurs when the edge node is migrated or deployed to an ESXi host cluster with EVC mode enabled, and the configured EVC mode is not at  the minimum required level for edge nodes.

 

Resolution

Reconfigure the EVC mode to the minimum required level. Starting VMware NSX-T datacenter 3.0 version the EVC mode must be set to Haswell or later generation.
