VCF Future upgrade to 5.0+ blocked on the environment

Issue/Introduction

Using OOB upgrade mechanism, users may end up in a state wherein the environment is in an incompatible state with the chosen VCF release BOM.

Symptoms:

The upgrade can be scheduled. However the upgrades will not be triggered as expected.

Please find below the sample error message:

Please verify product versions stored in VCF inventory are in-sync with actual product version. Please use SDDC Manager Compatibility APIs to verify whether the vCenter target version is interoperabale with other BOM components and it can be upgraded from current version to target version. For more information on the not compatible product pairs, check the activity log.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.x

Cause

Environment may contain stale SDDC-M inventory limiting the product to guide users with compatible future releases.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware Cloud Foundation 5.0.

Workaround:

To workaround the issue, please follow the below mentioned steps:

1. The user can use AP tool to update SDDC-M inventory with accurate product versions by using "--sync" option from VCF Async Patch Tool Options

2. The users can refer to Interop tools supported by VMware to learn about incompatibility of the product suite and decide the future VCF release.

3. Once SDDC-M inventory is updated using AP tool, SDDC LCM should enumerate the compatible future VCF releases.
