Issue/Introduction

After the shared datastore is disconnected from all ESXi Host and connected again, a vmdk over 2TB cannot be created on the datastore.

When you try to create a vmdk over 2TB you see the error "The capacity exceeds the maximum virtual disk size for the datastore."

You see the Maximum file size parameter and the Maximum virtual disk size parameter as 2TB in vSphere Client.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.0

Resolution

This is resolved in ESXi 8.0.

Workaround:
Restart hostd service.

 /etc/init.d/hostd restart
