Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • ESXi disconnects from vCenter Server or shows host not responding.
  • System logs contain many "nicmgmtd: Cannot allocate a new data segment, out of memory" messages.
  • ESXi host experiences a PSOD.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.2

Cause

This is a known issue affecting VMware ESXi 7.0 Update 2.
  • Cascading log messages from the "nicmgmtd" and "sfcbd" components exhaust available log socket buffer space.
  • The resulting buffer space starvation causes both daemons supplying information to hostd to block.
  • Blocking hostd prevents the daemon from making progress and responding to vCenter Server.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vSphere ESXi 7.0 Update 3c
