Issue/Introduction

This article provides guidance on troubleshooting virtual machine hard disks that are displayed as long decimals. This issue can affect backup operations and snapshot functionality.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 7.0 Update 3i (Build Number 20845200).

To workaround this issue, manually adjust the disk size to the nearest whole number. For example, if the disk size is shown as 1.642847283747, round it up to 2.

Note: The disk size can only be increased, not reduced.

Steps to Change Disk Size Using the Web Client:

  1.     Right-click the virtual machine in the inventory and select Edit Settings.
  2.     On the Virtual Hardware tab, expand the Hard Disk section to view the disk options.
  3.     In the Provisioned Size text box, enter the new size (rounded to the next whole number).
  4.     Click OK to save your changes.

Note: Disks larger than 2 TB cannot be hot-extended. You must shut down the VM before performing this operation.
