Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
vMotion failed due to following error:
" Failed - a general system error occurred: Disconnected from virtual machine. Failed to establish transport connection (9)" error

You can find following messages in /var/log/vmkernel.log at destination site.

WARNING: World: vm 1407044: 8725: vmm0:testVM:vcpu-0:VMM fault 14: src=MONITOR rip=0xfffffffffc492eb6 regs=0xfffffffffc607db0
World: 8728: vmm group leader = 1407044, members = 1

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5

Cause

This is known issue.
This issue occurs when virtual machine (VM) has not been powered off since running on ESXi 4.x.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vSphere 6.5 Patch 3.

Workaround:
If this issue occurs, you can avoid this problem after powering off/on VM.
