Issue/Introduction

Before upgrading vRealize Log Insight to version 8.0, it is recommended to check that each node in the cluster has enough free space on sda3, mounted as the / partition (root).
More than 50% should be free.
For older vRealize Log Insight deployments, / is 8GB, meaning a little more than 4GB should be free, where the size of / on newer deployments is 16GB, meaning a little more than 8GB should be free.

Environment

VMware vRealize Log Insight 8.x

Resolution

To avoid space issues during the upgrade, ensure there is a little more than 50% free space on /.

If there is not adequate space, clear the /tmp directory by running the following command on each node in the vRealize Log Insight cluster:

rm -rf /tmp/*

Note: vRealize Log Insight does not use the /tmp folder to store and critical operations.

For small setups where the / partition is ~8 GB, it is recommend to extend the disk before initiating the upgrade. Please contact Broadcom Support.

If clearing the /tmp folder does not free enough disk space, the vRealize Log Insight node will need to be examined further.  Please contact Broadcom Support for assistance examining the vRealize Log Insight node.

Additional Information

If enough free space is not available on the / partition, the upgrade will fail with the corresponding error message:

Problem occurred when running upgrade: Insufficient free space on root partition.
