VCSA VAMI backup is failing to delete old backups according to retention policy

Issue/Introduction

When using the vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface (VAMI) to back up the vCenter Server instance, the option Number of backups to retain \ retain last X backups does not work. This is applicable for all vCenter 6.7.x versions with all available protocol types (FTP, FTPS, HTTP, HTTPS, SFTP, NFS, or SMB). 




The number of backups may be higher than the retention period given in the VAMI backup schedule. 

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware vCenter Server 6.7 Update 3b.
