Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
The SCO Openserver virtual machine experiences these symptoms:
  • The virtual machine loses connectivity after upgrading the ESXi host to ESXi 5.5 Update 2 (Build 2143827) or ESXi 6.0.
  • The virtual machine hangs for few minutes during boot up.
  • The virtual machine CPU usage reaches 100% and becomes unresponsive.


Cause

This issue occurs due to an unexpected behavior in the SCO Openserver e1008g driver.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting the SCO Openserver virtual machine with E1000 network adapter running on ESXi 5.5 Update 2 (Build 2143827) and ESXi 6.0.
 
This issue is resolved in:
 
If you are unable to upgrade, you can work around this issue using one of these options:
  • Migrate the affected virtual machine to an ESXi host with a lower build.
 
Note: The e1008g driver does not have this issue when running on other versions of ESXi 5.x including ESXi 5.5 with a lower build.
