Issue/Introduction

Design Decision: Set datastore with Permanent Device Loss (PDL) to Power Off and Restart VMs in vSphere HA.

Resolution

Design Justification: Availability of virtual machines that run on non-vSAN datastores can be increased by using VM Component Protection. If a host experiences a Permanent Device Loss event, vSphere HA can restart the affected virtual machines on other hosts that can still access that datastore.

Design Implication: Only virtual machines that run on non-vSAN datastores can be protected by VM Component Protection.

This design decision is supported in the following Domains.
•    Management Domain
•    VI Workload Domain

This design decision is supported on VCF version 4.1 and higher.
