Issue/Introduction
Cannot get a Smarts NCM remote device server to complete installation or function properly, resulting in the remote server being unavailable for use.
The following system behaviors may be observed with this issue:
Installation of remote Smarts NCM device server is not completing.
Remote Smarts NCM device server installation appears to complete, but the remote server is not functioning properly.
Environment
NCM - 10.1.x
Cause
During the installation of a remote Smarts NCM device server, the remote server failed to register itself with the main Smarts NCM application server for some reason. This issue can be caused by any of the following:
The remote server is not able to resolve the application server's FQDN.
The application server is not able to resolve the remote server's FQDN.
The remote server is not included in the application servers lockbox.
Resolution
Each of the causes that are listed above for this issue can be corrected as follows:
The remote server is not able to resolve the application server's FQDN. This can be corrected in either of the following ways:
Update the hosts file on the Smarts NCM remote device server to include the Smarts NCM application server IP address
Coordinate with the DNS administrator to ensure that the remote server resolves correctly using DNS.
The application server is not able to resolve the remote server FQDN. This can be corrected in either of the following ways:
Update the hosts file on the Smarts NCM application server to include the Smarts NCM remote device server IP address
Coordinate with the DNS administrator to ensure that the both servers resolve correctly using DNS.
The Smarts NCM remote device server is not included in the application server lockbox.
