Virtual Machine Loses Network Connectivity After a Reboot

Issue/Introduction

VM networking adapters will be unchecked after a reboot or if the VM is migrated to a different host due to a hardware failure.

 

• From vmware.log of the corresponding VM:
  
  YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SSZ| vmx| I125: DICT ethernet0.startConnected = "FALSE"
  
  
  • This means that when VM is powered ON, it will start disconnected.

Cause

• All VM were created from the same template.
• "connect at Power on" box in the UI is unchecked within Virtual Machine > Edit Settings > Network Adapter > Device Status.

Resolution

• Please select the "connect at Power on" box in UI and configure the VM appropriately.
• Make sure that VM template has the correct configuration.
