Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The VIC appliance deployment process never moves past the "initializing" phase.
  • VIC is being deployed from a vSphere Content Library.

Environment

VMware vSphere Integrated Containers 1.x

Resolution

When deploying the VIC Appliance using a vSphere Content Library, the first VMDK (root partition) will have a size of 6GB, making the VIC Appliance unable to start.

Deploy the VIC Appliance as indicated in the "Procedure 1: Deploy the OVA" as noted in Deploy the vSphere Integrated Containers Appliance .

Workaround:
  1. SSH to the VIC appliance
  2. Issue the following command to gracefully shutdown the VIC Appliance:
shutdown -h now
  1. Once the VIC Appliance is shutdown completely, using the vSphere Web Client, edit the setting of the VIC Appliance VM.
  2. Extend the affected disks to at least 20 GB and Click OK
  3. Power On the VIC Appliance
Note: During boot, the partitions on all the disks will be automatically resized.
