Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Workload domain creation fails after adding an additional rack to a VMware Cloud Foundation 2.2/2.3 deployment
  • You see messages similar to the following in the /home/vrack/vrm/logs/vrack-vrm-debug.log file:
2018-04-06 02:33:13,879 ERROR: com.vmware.vrack.vrm.iaas.tools.IaasWorkflowService - Error in triggering IaaS workflow
java.lang.NullPointerException: null
at com.vmware.vrack.vrm.iaas.tools.IaasWorkflowService.addClusterParameters(IaasWorkflowService.java:1031) ~[vrm-iaas-2.2.1-RELEASE.jar:na]
at com.vmware.vrack.vrm.iaas.tools.IaasWorkflowService.trigger(IaasWorkflowService.java:666) ~[vrm-iaas-2.2.1-RELEASE.jar:na]


Note: The preceding log excerpts are only examples. Date, time, and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment.


Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 2.2.x
VMware Cloud Foundation 2.3.x

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Cloud Foundation 2.2 and 2.3. There is currently no resolution.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue, use the following steps:
  1. Download the attached 53900_cassandradatetime.zip file.
  2. Use a file transfer utility to copy the 53900_cassandradatetime.zip file to the /tmp folder on the SDDC Manager Controller virtual machine.
  3. Log in to the SDDC Manager Controller virtual machine as the root user.
  4. Execute the following command to extract the contents of the 
unzip -d /tmp/ /tmp/53900_cassandradatetime.zip
  1. ​Execute the following command to run the /tmp/53900_cassandradatetime.py script:
python /tmp/53900_cassandradatetime.py

Note: Workload domain creation should complete successfully at this point.
