Symptoms:
The Network Connectivity Validation step fails during VMware Cloud Foundation 3.0 bring-up
A network switch using a Linux operating system is in use in the VMware Cloud Foundation environment
You see an error similar to the following in the Cloud Builder UI:
Network Connectivity Valdiation, error: '"- ESXi host '172.16.11.101' -> '172.16.11.103' VLAN 'VSAN' doesn't support MTU 9000 but smaller 1500 MTU packet SUCCESS"
Environment
VMware Cloud Foundation 3.0.x
Cause
When conducting a ping test with an MTU size of 9000 bytes the Linux ICMP/ping implementation doesn’t encapsulate the 28 byte ICMP (8) + IP (20) (ping + standard internet protocol packet) header – as a result the size of the packet would be 9028 when attempting to do a ping test and would result in failure.
Resolution
This is a known issue affecting VMware Cloud Foundation 3.0 when a network switch using a Linux operating system is in use. There is currently no resolution.
Workaround: To workaround this issue, click the Acknowledge button to move past the error and proceed with bring-up.
