Issue/Introduction

The esx.audit.usb.config.changed message is received when the configuration of USB devices connected to a host changes.

Configuration changes include the following:
  • A USB device is detached from the host
  • A USB device is connected to the host
  • A virtual machine claims the USB device
  • A virtual machine releases the USB device

Example

The following is an example of the message received when a configuration change occurs:
USB configuration has changed.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi
VMware vCenter Server

Cause

When the configuration of USB devices connected to a host changes.

Resolution

This is an information-only event.

If the vCenter Server is flooded with this message and is causing performance deterioration, determine which host the message corresponds to and check the following:

  •  Any physical USBs plugged into the ESXi host server (reseat the USB)
  • Any VM that has USB port integrated
  •  KVM USBs
  • If using USB passthrough, ensure compatibility

Refer to the below link for Supported USB device models for passthrough from an ESX or ESXi host to a virtual machine.
