Issue/Introduction

  • Unable to add VMDK's to an existing VM
  • Error "Please select a valid scsi controller for the disk"

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7

Cause

This is expected as the maximum number of Virtual SCSI targets per virtual SCSI adapter is 15.

Resolution

This is expected behavior if the existing SCSI controller nodes are fully utilized, i.e. already 15 VMDK's are connected to the SCSI controller. (SCSI0:15).

Add a new SCSI controller and mount the new disks to it.
