Cloning VM fails with "PBM error occurred during PreCloneCheckCommonCallback: Fault cause: pbm.fault.PBMFault"

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:


VM clone task fails immediately with error:

A general system error occurred: PBM error occurred during PreCloneCheckCommonCallback: Fault cause: pbm.fault.PBMFault;
Internal error during SPBM validation;
No VASA Provider for schema namespace (com.dell.storageprofile.equallogic.std.VASA10) found.

Environment

vSphere 7.x

vSphere 8.x

Cause

The VM has stale Storage Policy attached for a previous storage configuration that has been changed 
The Storage policy of the VM may been removed or deleted due to some reason

Resolution

Admin need to change the VM Storage Policy to use the Default Policy.

Host and Cluster view > VM ( right click )  > VM Policies >  Edit VM policies 
Here you can select the Storage policy for the VM or individual VMDK by selecting " Configure per disk "

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:

Any Virtual Machine attached to this Storage Policy will fail to clone.
