Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to upgrade and interoperability of VMware Products.

Resolution

To upgrade VMware products and database compatibility:

1. Go to VMware Product Interoperability Matrix
2. Multi-Solution Interoperability and Multi-Solution Upgrade path.
   
   For Example: Select vCenter Server and add another Solution as ESXi.
   
3. vSphere Upgrade Path for all vSphere Products.
   
   For Example: As mentioned in the below screenshot, select the VMware vCenter Server to see the vCenter upgrade path.

4. While Preparing for Upgrade please make sure if the Hardware is Compatible with vSphere Products see VMware Compatibility Guide
5. Check the Upgrade/Update Sequence for all vSphere Products see the below article for each version,
   • Update sequence for vSphere 6.0 and its compatible VMware products (2109760)
   • Update sequence for vSphere 6.5 and its compatible VMware products (2147289)
   • Update sequence for vSphere 6.7 and its compatible VMware products (53710)
   • Update sequence for vSphere 7.0 and its compatible VMware products (78221)

vSphere 6.7 Upgrade Pre-requirements:

• As mentioned in the ESXi Upgrade Path Screenshot no direct upgrade path from 5.5 to 6.7
• Upgrade ESXi Host
• Upgrade VMFS to latest version
• Upgrade Distributed Switch
• Extract new Host Profiles from newly upgraded ESXi host (If you are using Host Profiles)
  • Migration Paths from vCenter Server for Windows to vCenter Server Appliance 6.7
  • Patching the vCenter Server Appliance and Platform Services Controller Appliance
