Issue/Introduction
The VMWare Cloud Foundation SDDC Manager application requires root access to all ESXi hosts. No other account on the ESXi hosts can be used and the ESXi hosts cannot have the root account modified outside of SDDC Manager. If the root account becomes locked, numerous automation and lifecycle tasks will fail.
Resolution
No modifications to the root account on any ESXi hosts should be made outside of SDDC Manager.
Include VMware Cloud Foundation ESXi hosts in any exceptions to any security appliances that might attempt brute force attacks against the ESXi operating system as this type of activity could cause the root account on ESXi hosts to be locked and break SDDC Manager functionality.
