Issue/Introduction

The disks were previously used in the vSAN cluster, and the proper cleanup was not done before moving used vSAN disks over to the other vSAN cluster.

It shows up as an unhealthy Disk group.

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.0.x

Cause

The disk contains old partitions on it, as it was previously used for another vSAN cluster.

Resolution

  • Check if there are any old partitions on this disk to be added.

    If there are

  • If old vSAN partitions are found, follow the tech doc below to erase existing disk partitions and try to add the disks to the existing disk group.

Once this is done, the disk will be available to be claimed for the vSAN disk group.
