Can VISION:Transact for IMS and CICS be installed in the same loadlib?

Issue/Introduction

Question:

If my site uses both IMS and CICS teleprocessing environments, can I perform a single installation of VISION:Transact?

 

Answer:

The current release of VISION:Transact for IMS is 7.5.

The current release of VISION:Transact for CICS is 7.8 which includes the COMMAREA enhancement.

If VISION:Transact 7.8 is downloaded from Support Online, the r7.5 IMS modules are delivered.
But since r7.5 is not an SMP/E install and r7.8 was developed only for CICS, the r7.8 SMP/E jobs don't address the IMS modules.

If a site has both CICS and IMS, they must have 2 distinct loadlibs to be at the most current release of both, though COMLIBs may be shared.

r7.5 uses an Activation key for licensing and r7.8 uses LMP keys, so both types of keys are required.

However, if the CICS COMMAREA feature will not be used, then a single loadlib at the r7.5 level can be used
with a single Activation key which specifies both system types.
