Limitations of migrating vRealize Log Insight On-Prem to Cloud

Issue/Introduction

The purpose of this article is to inform the reader of the limitations of migrating vRealize Log Insight On-Prem to Cloud via vRealize Cloud Connect

Symptoms:
  • A timeout may occur if there is a large number of AD users configured and Nested Group lookup is enabled.
  • Migration will fail in if the primary node of the on-prem vRealize Log Insight instance has different passwords for the root and admin users
  • Dashboard widgets' and alerts' query filters are not migrated correctly if there is combination of ALL and ANY filter matching rules
  • Webhooks configured for an alert will not be migrated


Resolution

This is a known issue affecting vRealize Log Insight Cloud, there is no resolution at this time.  Please subscribe to this article to be informed when updates are published.

Workaround:
To workaround the issue, follow the below steps for the section(s) of interest:

Active Directory Nested Groups:

Before beginning the content migration, follow the steps in
Custom Active Directory configuration for VMware vRealize Log Insight (2079763) to update the default value from true to false for the following internal config tag:

<ad-nested-groups-matching-chain-rule value="false" />

Admin and root Password Mismatch:

Configure the same password for the admin and root for the primary node of the vRealize Log Insight instance before starting migration using vRealize Cloud Connect.

Admin account

If you know your admin password and wish to change it:
  1. Log in to the vRealize Log Insight on-prem UI as admin
  2. In the top right, cligk on the Admin user name
  3. Click on My Settings
  4. Under the Change Password heading, enter your old and new password
  5. Click save

Root account

If you know your root password and wish to change it:
  1. SSH to the vRealize Log Insight primary node as root
  2. Run the following command to change the root password
pwd
 
Note: This will prompt you to create a new password, and then to enter it again to confirm.  The password requirements are as follows: it must have only visible ASCII characters including space, must be at least 8 characters long and contain one uppercase, one lowercase, one number and one special character.
 

 

Dashboard/Alert Query Filters

Webhooks Configured With Alerts

Webhooks configured for an alert will not be migrated and are not supported Admin in present release. Please subscribe to the article to be alerted as to any changes with future releases.
